Auto-Optimization
Solixync can automatically optimize images when you add new products or upload new images. Set it up once and let it work in the background.
How Auto-Optimization Works
New Product Trigger
When enabled, Solixync automatically processes images whenever you:
- Create a new product in Shopify
- Import products via CSV or app
- Add products through any Shopify integration
Flow:
You add a new product
↓
Shopify notifies Solixync (webhook)
↓
Solixync fetches product images
↓
Images processed with your default platforms
↓
Optimized images update your Shopify product
New Image Trigger
When enabled, Solixync processes images when you:
- Add new images to an existing product
- Replace images on a product
- Upload additional product photos
Note: Only new images are processed. Existing images that haven't changed are skipped.
Setting Up Auto-Optimization
During Onboarding
The onboarding wizard (Step 3) lets you enable:
- ☑️ Auto-optimize new products
- ☑️ Auto-optimize new images
In Settings
Anytime after installation:
- Go to Settings
- Find the Auto-Optimization section
- Toggle each option on or off
- Changes save automatically
Configuration Options
Default Platforms
Choose which platforms auto-optimized images target:
| Platform | When to Include |
|---|---|
| Shopify | Always (required) |
| Amazon | If you sell on Amazon |
| Etsy | If you sell on Etsy |
| eBay | If you sell on eBay |
| If you create Pinterest pins |
Tip: Select all platforms where you might list products. It's easier to have them ready than to reprocess later.
Update Behavior
How optimized images are applied to Shopify:
| Behavior | Best For |
|---|---|
| Replace | Clean product pages with only optimized images |
| Add | Keeping originals alongside optimized versions |
| Files only | Manual control over which images to use |
Auto-Update on Complete
- Enabled: Images automatically update in Shopify when processing finishes
- Disabled: You'll need to manually approve updates
For auto-optimization, we recommend keeping this enabled so it's fully hands-off.
Best Practices
Start Conservative
If you're unsure, start with:
- Enable only "new products" trigger
- Use "files only" update behavior
- Review results before enabling full automation
Once comfortable, enable "replace" for seamless automation.
Platform Selection
Select all platforms you might use:
- Processing happens once, exports for all selected platforms
- Better to have exports ready than to reprocess
- Extra platform exports don't affect your quota
Monitor Initially
When first enabling auto-optimization:
- Add a test product
- Check the Jobs page for processing status
- Verify the results look correct
- Adjust settings if needed
What Gets Processed
Included
- All images attached to new products
- New images added to existing products (if enabled)
- Images from any source (upload, CSV import, API)
Excluded
- Existing images that haven't changed
- Draft products (only published products)
- Variant-specific images (main product images only)
Monitoring Auto-Optimization
Jobs Page
Auto-optimized jobs appear in your Jobs list:
- Labeled as "Auto-optimized"
- Shows which product triggered it
- Same status tracking as manual jobs
Dashboard
Recent auto-optimization jobs show on your dashboard in the "Recent Jobs" section.
Notifications
Get notified when auto-optimization:
- Completes successfully
- Encounters errors
- Uses significant quota (approaching limit)
Troubleshooting
Auto-Optimization Not Triggering?
- Check Settings - Ensure the trigger is enabled
- Verify Permissions - App needs
write_productspermission - Check Webhooks - Go to Shopify Admin > Settings > Notifications > Webhooks
- Product Type - Only published products trigger webhooks
Wrong Platforms Being Used?
- Go to Settings
- Check your Default Platforms selection
- Ensure desired platforms are checked
Images Not Updating in Shopify?
- Check your Update Behavior setting
- If set to "Files only", images won't update product pages
- Try changing to "Replace" or "Add"
Using Too Much Quota?
If auto-optimization is using more quota than expected:
- Review how many products you're adding
- Consider upgrading to Unlimited plan
- Or disable auto-optimization and process manually
Disabling Auto-Optimization
To turn off auto-optimization:
- Go to Settings
- Toggle off the triggers you want to disable
- Existing products and jobs are not affected
You can always process products manually even with auto-optimization disabled.
When to Use Manual Processing Instead
Auto-optimization works great for:
- Consistent product photography
- Standard product images
- High-volume stores
Consider manual processing when:
- Images need individual adjustment
- Some products shouldn't be processed
- You want to review before updating Shopify
